I can give my thoughts on this. I'm the co-founder of Formation.dev and I want to be very upfront that I do not think Formation is a good fit for you yet (we work with experienced engineers to get top-tier roles), but I do have extensive experience with mentoring as a result of Formation and can highlight the pros and cons in my opinion.
**Personal Mentoring**
PROS:
* Goes at your pace
* Focused on your strengths and weaknesses
* Content can change and adapt as you go
* Always have a helping hand
CONS:
* Only get one person's point of view. If you hire an army of mentors it will cost you a fortune.
* Relying on one person's teaching style working all the time
* Different people are good at teaching different things, you are overpaying for some things for worse quality
* It's hard to find a good mentor and hard to judge if they are good, when you don't know what you don't know
**Structured Training (e.g. Bootcamp, Courses, etc...)**
PROS:
* You follow a curriculum that has hopefully been iterated on and tested before on others
* You have accountability and peer-pressure/external pressure
* Meet a wide variety of peers and friends that will be around for your entire career and also just make life better during the program
CONS:
* You waste time on things you are good at and don't spend enough time on things you need to work on. Instead you have to put in 12 hours days drinking from the firehose.
* For bootcamps specifically, often taught and graded by peers who just graduated and have no experience themselves.
* Attention is focused on the people struggling instead of the people doing well

At Formation we combine the pros of both into a unique approach to training that I'm super proud of (and still needs to get better and better). Rather than a "curriculum", we have created thousands of tasks, micro-live session types, and assessments, and every week we see how you are doing, check your schedule for that week, and then give you a set of things to do that fit in your schedule. Some things are personal, some in pairs, and some with senior mentors 1-1 or in 2-5 person groups. When you work with a senior mentor at Formation, you are getting the right person at the right time for the right activity, who would cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars to have full time for yourself. Then we see how you are performing each week and repeat! Towards your job hunt, you get more 1-1 mock interviews with senior engineers and hiring managers to simulate your real interviews. Finally, there is no fixed timeframe - we work with you full force until you get a job you are happy with.
