u/michaelnovatireplied·
Yeah, but you do have to be expecting to graduate end of 2025 through spring 2026. If you really want a job sooner, the timing doesn't work out and you likely have better options to pursue.
u/Objective_Vanilla_11 wrote (the comment Michael replied to):
Can I apply if I graduate this coming May? Really looking for the experience (no full-time job offer)
u/michaelnovatireplied·
Unfortunately no. The internship will be in a whole year in 2025 and then full time offers will be for 2026.

Thanks for sharing this! Do you know if this program is a replacement for the Netflix Pathways Program, or is it a separate one made for juniors? The Pathways program is for seniors, I believe.
u/michaelnovatireplied·
I can't comment on behalf of Netflix, but my personal understanding is that there have been changes since previous years and you should keep an eye out for the latest official updates.
u/UniversityExact8347 wrote (the comment Michael replied to):
Have past fellows became Netflix interns?
u/michaelnovatireplied·★ FEATURED
This could be two questions, so I'll answer both:
1. Last summer we ran a smaller program and many people received offers, and those that didn't found all the training was did helpful in other interviews and I think people unanimously found the program very helpful according to the exit survey they all do, and anecdotally. These engineers were preparing for full time roles though and not internships.
2. If you are asking if a non-Netflix program Formation Fellow has gotten a job as Netflix intern, then no. In the paid Fellowship, we work with people with existing SWE work experience and we don't work with college students looking for internships, so it wouldn't be expected for them to get internships.
u/Proposal_Alone wrote (the comment Michael replied to):
Do you need to get a certain score to be accepted what is the cutoff?
u/michaelnovatireplied·
I don't believe there is a minimum score, but overall Netflix is looking to invest in people that Formation's program will help improve significantly and not necessarily the top students with perfect scores.
u/thebestxario wrote (the comment Michael replied to):
Is 475 good enough?

I believe so, but I'm not reviewing applications.
u/archivedscreamqueen wrote (the comment Michael replied to):
Hi! I just applied for this program, and I got a 626 on the assessment. I looked into what it ranked me and it said I have enough knowledge to take "easy D&SA" questions. I am a bit confused because we are sophomores and a lot of us are currently in our DS&A course learning these
u/michaelnovatireplied·★ FEATURED
Good question!
Netflix is looking for all kinds of skills beyond just DS&A, such as systems design skills, and you'll work on all of those during Formation.
Second, the assessment is just a gauge your readiness and doesn't have any actual code in it. To have the highest chance possible of passing the interviews you also need to practice other skills for how to work through a problem live with the interviewer, breakdown problems you haven't seen before, communicate well, and right clean code. So all of those things are things you'll work on as well.
Other people might have weaker DS&A but lots of potential and the program works for those people as well and will adapt for the things you need to work on.
u/archivedscreamqueen wrote (the comment Michael replied to):
During this program, will it be suitable enough to master harder DS&A concepts? Would reaching out to members of the team help out with getting accepted?
u/michaelnovatireplied·★ FEATURED
No, you'll also need systems design topics covered. In terms of getting accepted, having a good video is a start! Reaching out to team members won't help and all applications will be reviewed fairly. But if you are nervous about the application or have logistical questions please reach out to the team.
u/archivedscreamqueen wrote (the comment Michael replied to):
I find it odd that they are expecting sophomores to have system-design topics under their belt since those topics aren't taught until you reach junior/senior year. Do you know what the highest score you can get on the assessment? Additionally, I had a question about my applicatio
u/michaelnovatireplied·★ FEATURED
Yeah it's certainly interesting. It's more of an object oriented systems design than bug scale systems.
Netflix historically hasn't hired junior engineers at all so it's relatively new to hire interns and new grads, and I think that is why they look for some of these things - it's a culture biased to senior engineers.
The highest score is 1000 but it's not linear.

What does the interview for this program consist of? Is it technical or behavioral?
u/michaelnovatireplied·
It's entirely behavioral yeah. I don't know specifically but I believe, some amount is confirming your information and eligibility and commitment to doing what Formation and Netflix ask of you during the program, and then the other is talking about your motivations and passions
u/Bluestream25 wrote (the comment Michael replied to):
Would it disadvantage me if I mentioned my Amazon internship this summer? I’m not sure if their goal is to help people get into big tech or just to help people improve their skills
u/michaelnovatireplied·★ FEATURED
Their goal is to hire you as an intern next summer, but it's fine to do internships this summer.
However, their goal is also to improve people's skills in hiring them and not just hiring people who are already at the bar. Formation is 15+ hours a week meant to improve you as an engineer, so they want people who are all in on that and not appearing to possibly trying to find a shortcut to get to Netflix.
So if you are committed and want to work at Netflix and ready to juggle Formation and an internship it probably can't hurt.

Hi! I believe our team members dedicated to reviewing applications are still thoroughly going through and interviews are expected to begin at the posted date of March 6th. I believe interviews will happen through the interview period, so not hearing back by March 6th doesn't mean you won't get one necessarily. I will say that the team reported a very large number of applications and thank you to everyone for taking the time to apply and make a video! But many great candidates, naturally, many will also not get interviews unfortunately.
There's no progress tracker for the program this year but it's something we would like to add in the future and appreciate the implied feedback that that would be useful.

Hi, I would mention it in the interview yeah. It may be possible it could work but it's not ideal timing wise. I'm not sure what the minimum is, but there could be some important onboarding sessions you would miss.
Just generally speaking, the program isn't just something to put on your resume and it takes time and it's also why it's really valuable and effective :). So if the team doesn't think you'll benefit properly it might just not be a good fit, and you don't want to push it because you won't get the most out of it. So I would be transparent and accept the decision if we can't support it.

I don't think it's super secret but I don't know if I can say because Netflix might have to sign off too, but there were a significantly large number of applications, so it will be tough. The recruiters are going through every single application and making sure they get read, but the number of slots is much smaller than the number of applications. If you get an interview though that's good though, because the ration of interview -> accepted will be much higher.

Correct, if you haven't heard a yes or no explicitly about Netflix then you are still pending and will hear back either this or next week. Sorry for the delay, we want to make sure we interview as many candidates as possible before Netflix locks in the final decisions.

Hi, we are processing applications and doing interviews on a rolling basis throughout March.
I'm not on the selection team but the entire application is important, from your resume experience to your loom video.
Having a higher score is better but it's not necessary if you have a very strong video. And having a higher score alone isn't sufficient.
u/TowerComprehensive48 wrote (the comment Michael replied to):
how many waves of interviews will there be?
u/michaelnovatireplied·★ FEATURED
It's a rolling window, so the team is reviewing all the applications and if they choose to move forward with someone they will offer an interview right away, which they continue to review more applications.
I would expect the first pass to be complete this week or next week with initial wave of interviews offered and as we see how many people pass interviews and meet the qualifications (graduation dates, etc...)

I'm not sure on the ratios but overall a low single digit percentage of people will be selected. I would guess approximately 2X the number of people selected will be interviewed so the bar for being interviewed is also quite high given the huge number of applications.

I'm not on the selection team but just from what I do know I don't think emailing will necessarily help, just because it's a fixed time window and until you've heard back then you're still in the running and we're only committing to make the decisions by the end of the window I believe is April 6th (check the website).

The program is motivated by trying to support people from diverse backgrounds, which is why not only the score matter, but the soft-skills, motivation, and demonstrating Netflix values.
It's subjective and I totally understand as a student and not having worked at Netflix that it's hard to self-evaluating those aspects either, but those are equally important - we've been doing this program for a few years now and we want to make sure we select/recommend people who **we see signal** of a path to getting hired there

I'm not 100% sure - for this program, Netflix has to sign off on things, and then we have to do the paperwork. So all the steps have to happen before we can officially send out acceptance paperwork across different entities, so I can't 100% guarantee any timeframes.
