Thanks! So sounds like asking for emergency contact info is the norm? As for social security they said they are legally obliged to collect it from the state, they’re definitely not a bank or financial institution.

I mean I can't speak for everyone and maybe they have a good reason but I would push back on that and ask exactly why they need it and how they will securely store it.
